President Hosni Mubarak received a detailed report from Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Nasr El Din Allam, on Friday 12/2/2010 on efforts to protect citizens, public and private properties in the governorates of Sinai, Aswan and Red Sea from effects and dangers of floods in future.
These efforts include a reevaluation of all facilities and slums located in the floods' courses, amendment of law on the prohibition of building in courses of floods and providing funds required for the immediate protection of the affected governorates as an initial stage at an estimated cost of EGP 200 million.
The report covered urgent future actions as well as the positive effects of the protection dams in Sinai and Aswan . The establishment of many dams played a great and positive role in protecting Ne'ama Bay, Nuweiba'a and Dahab from the impacts of recent floods and taking advantage of underground water as a second source of water.
On the other hand, the minister said that 6.5 million cubic meters of water have been kept behind the Dam of El-Rawafe'a in Wadi El Arish, thus increasing the level of underground water in the coastal line by 50 meters, improving the quality of water and storing more than 20 million cubic meters of water in other dams.
