Thousands of acres of farmland are under water after a broken levee near Oakville, Iowa 18 June, 2008. The swollen Mississippi River has breached several levees with dozens more threatened as river levels are expected to rise to record levels from Wisconsin to Louisiana. In Iowa, officials estimate 17 percent of Iowa's 13 million acres of corn and 17 percent of Iowa's 10 million acres of soybeans, or more than 5 million acres of crops, have either been flooded out or were never planted this spring.
