Loss and damage from climate change: After adaptation
The climate talks under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Bangkok ended on September 5 in preparation for the eighteenth conference of parties (COP18) which will be held in Doha, Qatar in December 2012. Although not much moved forward in the Bangkok talks, one new topic that gained momentum was the issue of Loss and Damage from Climate Change. Some of the issues with regard to this new and emerging topic are described below. At the seventeenth conference of parties (COP17) of the UNFCCC held in Durban, South Africa in December 2011, a work programme was adopted on the topic of Loss and Damage from Climate Change which consists of a series of regional expert workshops towards preparing a decision at COP18 to be held in Doha, Qatar in December 2012.
