Thawing permafrost may amplify global warming
The report warns that warming permafrost, which underlies nearly one-quarter of the Northern Hemisphere, could release twice as much carbon dioxide as is currently stored in the atmosphere.
If its frozen organic matter thaws, “it would amplify global warming and propel us into a warmer world."
